The river starts in your home. in your yard. in your town. with you!

Water is a huge part of our daily lives!

We rely on it for drinking, cooking, bathing, gardening, and growing food. Plus, we love playing in the waterways that are such a defining feature of our Pacific Northwest home.

There’s no doubt about it: we need water. And guess what—it needs us right back!

Taking action for water is doable.

Our everyday actions have a powerful impact on water quality. Does that feel like a lot of pressure? Maybe it is.

But before you run for the hills, know this: we can do a lot to preserve and protect this vital natural resource just by making some easy changes around our homes, in our yards, and in our driveways.

Home is a great place to start!

And we’re here to help you get started.

The River Starts Here is a project of the Regional Coalition for Clean Rivers and Streams. We are a partnership of public agencies in the Portland metropolitan area who want to educate the public about their role in the conservation of rivers, streams, and groundwater.

How? With solid information about:

  • Why clean water is important.
  • How our choices and actions affect water quality.
  • Clear, manageable steps we all can take on behalf of water.

Ready to take action now?

Great! Watch our socials for a steady stream of inspiration and information.

In the meantime, stay tuned into this space. We’re working diligently on a new website to help you build a healthier relationship with the world’s favorite natural resource: water.
